Stories of the Kingdom, the parables of Jesus: Pt: 1 What is the Kingdom of God?

4:30pm-6:00pm Sunday 6th of September 2026

Jesus was a master teacher.  His stories were  lively discourses full of illustrations, metaphors, and stories that caught and held the popular interest; he made people think. The parables provoke thought.  In each one Jesus communicated a truth about God or the kingdom of heaven that he wanted his listeners to remember, and so he told them a story.  We’re going to be working our way through some of Jesus’ classic stories of God’s Kingdom over the next few weeks.

If you want a study guide, you can download a copy HERE

Light refreshments

Venue: Social Support Centre, Activity Centre, 70 Mernda Village Drive, Mernda

MEDITATION IN THE SCRIPTURES PART:2

We've been thinking about what it means to flourish over the last many weeks. Mindfulness and also a capacity of discernment are foundational, as is an understanding of how to interpret and mediate on the scriptures.

Meditation is different to just 'studying." As Martin Luther put it: "Meditation means to think persistently, deeply and diligently. Properly speaking, it means to chew over something in the heart. ”— Martin Luther

How do the scriptures help us to grow? How do we meditate using the Bible? We'll review the Lectio Devina and have a practice together.

Light refreshments

Venue: Mernda Social Support Centre, Activity Room:1&2  70 Mernda Village.

Discussion: What does it mean to flourish? In what ways can we grow into this? What would it look like? (Prov 3:5-6, Micah 6:8, Phil 2:13). This term we want to reflect on practices that help each other intentionally flourish. We will conclude our time around the Communion table.
